recklessly-thin asked: Thank you for your input :) How can soy mess with your hormones though? xx

soy contains genistein, which (depending on your own body’s chemical makeup - we’re all so miraculously different) can produce effects similar to the hormone estrogen. rumors of young boys growing breasts are a little far-fetched, but i have known a good few female friends who - like me - experienced hormonal fluctuations when they started adding lots of soy to their diets, which caused anxiety and other mood swings

it’s just like anything else; everything in moderation, you know? i’d be lying if i said i never splurge on a soy no whip chai creme frappuccino, but i try to avoid eating excessive amounts of soy like i used to. for instance, instead of a soy-based meat substitute, i’ll use mushrooms now

there are plenty of good resources on this but here’s just one site that discusses it pretty objectively: http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/ehs/news/estrogenic-effects-of-soy
